The first step is teeth scaling which involves the dentist removing plaque and tartar above and below the gum line and cleaning to the bottom of the gum pocket. The second step is root planing which involves smoothing out the roots of the teeth to reattach the gums to the teeth. A deep cleaning procedure may take more than a single appointment to complete.
Can my child have a dental cleaning?
