About dental braces

What are teeth braces?

Braces are an orthodontic appliance used to gradually move teeth into a straighter, healthier alignment. Brackets attached to each tooth are connected by a wire that applies gentle, continuous pressure guiding teeth into their correct positions over 12 to 24 months.

Misaligned or crooked teeth can not only be aesthetically displeasing, but they can also lead to a variety of oral health problems, such as difficulty chewing, increased risk of tooth decay, and even jaw pain. Braces address these issues by realigning the teeth, creating a more uniform and aesthetically pleasing smile.

Our orthodontist team at Arrow Dental Centre offers a range of affordable teeth braces options to help you achieve a healthier, more comfortable smile.

Who it’s for

Braces are suitable for ages 7 and up

The right time to start orthodontic treatment depends on age, dental development, and the specific issue being corrected. Here’s what to expect at each life stage.

Ages 7–12

Children

Early orthodontic assessment from age 7 can identify problems before all permanent teeth come in. Some children might benefit from expanders or partial braces.

  • Catches bite issues early
  • Shorter overall treatment
  • Partially covered by insurance

Ages 13–17

Teenagers

The ideal window for full orthodontic correction as all permanent teeth are usually in place by age 13, and jaw growth is still active.

  • Faster results than adults
  • All braces types available
  • School-life-friendly options

Ages 18+

Adults

Modern options (clear aligners, ceramic and lingual braces) make adult orthodontics discreet enough for professional life. Treatment may take slightly longer.

  • Different braces options
  • Flexible payment plans
  • Suitable up to any age

Why consider braces

Straighten your teeth

Braces correct more than appearance — they fix functional issues that affect long-term oral health.

Improved appearance

A straight, even smile is what most patients come for and what most notice within the first six months of treatment.

Better oral hygiene

Aligned teeth are easier to brush and floss properly, which reduces the risk of decay and gum disease .

Enhanced chewing

A properly aligned bite distributes pressure evenly, reducing jaw fatigue and improving digestion.

Clearer speech

Aligned teeth correct speech issues like lisping by ensuring proper tongue placement and airflow.

Prevents jaw issues

Correcting bite problems early alleviates the risk of chronic jaw pain and TMJ disorders latr in life.

Long-term confidence

A comfortable, aligned smile changes how you engage with photos, presentations, and people.

Types of dental braces

When it comes to orthodontic treatment, there are different types of braces to choose from, each with its own pros and cons.

  • Traditional Metal Braces: These are the most common type of braces, utilizing metal brackets and wires to move teeth. They are a reliable and cost-effective option, and advancements in technology have made them smaller and more comfortable than ever before.
  • Ceramic Braces: These braces function similarly to metal braces but utilize tooth-colored ceramic brackets for a more discreet appearance. They are a popular choice for patients seeking a less noticeable orthodontic solution.
  • Lingual Braces: These braces are attached to the back of the teeth, making them virtually invisible from the front. They offer a high level of discretion but can be more expensive and may require a longer adjustment period.
  • Invisalign: This innovative system utilizes a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually shift teeth into place. Invisalign is a popular choice for adults and teens seeking a comfortable and discreet alternative to traditional braces.

Common questions

Braces FAQs

What types of braces do you offer?
At Arrow Dental, we offer metal braces (the most affordable option) and ceramic braces (more discreet and tooth-coloured). Your orthodontic consultation will recommend the best fit for your case.
How much do braces cost in Kenya?
Braces start from Ksh 90,000 per jaw or from Ksh 160,000 for both jaws. Payment plans are available, and the Ksh 1,000 consultation gives you a full treatment quote.
How long will I need to wear braces?
Most patients complete treatment in 12 to 24 months. The exact period will depend on your case and how closely you follow our orthodontist’s guidance.
Can adults get braces?
Yes. Many of our patients are adults. Treatment may take slightly longer than for teenagers, but the results are just as effective.
Do braces hurt?
There’s usually mild discomfort and soreness for a few days after fitting and after each adjustment. Most patients describe it as tenderness rather than pain, and it clears quickly.
What's the best age for a child to get braces?
We recommend a first orthodontic assessment around age 7. Most children get braces between 11 and 14, when their permanent teeth are in place.
Can I pay for braces in installments?
Yes. Arrow Dental offers flexible payment plans for braces so you can spread the cost over your treatment period. WhatsApp us on 0740187579 or 0769899516 to discuss options that work for your budget.
