How long does teeth whitening last? Is it permanent?
Professional whitening typically lasts one to two years, depending on what you drink and whether you smoke. It is not permanent, but a top-up restores it.

From the Teeth whitening guide
Professional teeth whitening typically lasts one to two years, so it is not permanent. How long yours lasts depends mostly on what you drink and whether you smoke. A top-up appointment restores the shade.
How long will it last?
Tea, coffee and cigarettes are the main culprits. If you have them daily, expect results at the shorter end. If you rarely do, they may last longer.
How do you make it last?
- Rinse with water after tea, coffee or other dark drinks
- Do not smoke
- Brush twice a day and have regular professional cleans
- Book a top-up when the shade starts to fade, rather than starting again
Does it damage your teeth?
Professional whitening does not damage enamel. It works by breaking down stain molecules within the tooth, not by stripping the surface. Some people have temporary sensitivity for a few days afterwards.
Unsupervised whitening is different. Acidic home remedies and unregulated gels can permanently erode enamel and burn gums.
Will it whiten crowns or veneers?
No. Whitening only works on natural enamel. Crowns, veneers and fillings keep their original shade, so if you are planning both, whiten first and match the new work afterwards.
Professional whitening starts from KES 28,000.
