Teeth masking in Kenya: cost, process and how long it lasts
Composite masking covers chips, gaps and discolouration in a single visit, from KES 5,000 per tooth. It is quicker and cheaper than veneers, but does not last as long.

Part of Cosmetic dentistry
Teeth masking, also called composite masking or bonding, uses tooth-coloured composite resin bonded and shaped directly on to the tooth. It covers chips, gaps, discolouration or minor misalignment in a single visit, without the lab work a veneer needs. It is also a common way to improve staining from fluorosis.
What will this cost me?
Teeth masking at Arrow Dental starts from KES 5,000 per tooth. A consultation starts from KES 1,500 and confirms how many teeth need treating. Masking is cosmetic, so it is typically not covered by SHA or insurance.
How long will it last?
Masking is not permanent. It does not last as long as a veneer, because composite resin is softer and more prone to wear and staining over time. How long yours lasts depends on what you eat and drink, whether you smoke, whether you grind your teeth, and how well you look after it.
The advantage is that it can usually be repaired or redone. To help it last:
- Go easy on tea, coffee and cigarettes
- Avoid biting nails, pens or very hard food with the masked teeth
- Keep up your regular cleans and check-ups
Masking or veneers?
| Masking | Zirconia veneers | |
|---|---|---|
| Starting price | KES 5,000 per tooth | KES 26,000 per tooth |
| Visits | Usually one | 2 to 3 |
| How long it lasts | Shorter | 10 to 15 years, often longer |
| Staining | Can stain over time | Does not stain |
Does it damage your teeth?
Masking is bonded to the tooth and generally removes little or no tooth structure. Your dentist will tell you if your teeth need anything else first, such as a clean or treatment for decay.
