What will this cost me?
| Item | Starting price |
|---|---|
| Root canal treatment | KES 12,000 |
| Dental crown, if needed afterwards | KES 26,000 |
| Consultation | KES 1,500 |
What changes the price of a root canal?
- Which tooth it is. Front teeth usually have one root canal. Molars have several, so they take longer.
- How complex the roots are. Curved or narrow canals, or an earlier treatment that needs redoing, add time. Some cases benefit from a 3D scan.
- What the tooth needs afterwards. A back tooth weakened by decay often needs a crown to protect it.
Most root canals take one or two visits of 60 to 90 minutes.
Is extraction cheaper than a root canal?
On the day, yes. A simple extraction starts from KES 4,000, but it leaves a gap that will eventually need replacing at greater cost. Keeping your own tooth is almost always better if it can be saved. Compare the two.
Will SHA or insurance pay for it?
Root canals are major procedures, which SHA may partly cover for civil servants when medically necessary. See how SHA works.
