What will this cost me?
| Item | Starting price |
|---|---|
| Tooth filling | KES 5,000 |
| Consultation | KES 1,500 |
What changes the price of a filling?
- Cavity size. A small cavity takes less time and less material.
- Position. Back teeth take more biting force and can be harder to reach.
- Material. Tooth-coloured composite is the usual choice. Other filling types suit other situations.
Is a “permanent” filling really permanent?
No filling lasts forever. A well-placed composite filling lasts 7 to 10 years, sometimes longer, depending on the size of the cavity, where it sits and how well you clean around it. Some people call this a “tooth refill”. When it wears out, it can usually be replaced.
Does SHA pay for fillings?
Simple fillings are preventive and basic care, which is generally covered under SHA for civil servants. See what SHA covers.
Why not wait?
A small cavity is the cheapest version of this problem. If decay reaches the nerve, you may need a root canal from KES 12,000 and possibly a crown, or an extraction and a replacement tooth.
